What Riding a Bike Taught Me About Life

I'm sure I'm not the only one who can't believe it's the beginning of September. Why is it that winter seems to go so slowly, and summer just speeds up?

As we move into September—fall in the Northern Hemisphere—the concept of balance keeps spinning in my mind.

According to the brilliant Thomas Hübl, “balance means movement.”

Think of riding a bike. When you stop, it is harder to keep your balance. When we resist, we lose our balance.

Therefore, it is important to align with the movement in our lives. It is a constant process of relating to what is in the moment.

The key is to become more skillful in walking our path. In this way, we can expand our perspective and become more motivated to take the small steps required to accomplish our greater vision.

I know that personally, when I run into difficulty and resist, I become tight physically and emotionally and then become reactive.

At these times, I stop, center in my heart, and send compassion to the part of me who is scared or resisting—usually my inner child.

I am learning to be curious rather than fearful.

And I make it a habit to call in the light into any situation that I’m in.

My mantra: Do not let anyone or anything dim your light.”

But what does that actually mean?

For me, it doesn't mean pretending everything is positive or pushing difficult feelings away.

It means noticing when I have given my power away—when fear, old stories, other people's expectations, or my own self-doubt have taken me out of alignment.

And then I have a choice.

I can pause. I can breathe. I can get curious. I can shift the story I am telling myself. I can release what is no longer serving me and choose the next small step toward what I truly want.

That is where ritual becomes so powerful. It gives us a way to interrupt the patterns that keep us stuck and consciously create space for something new.

And perhaps September is the perfect time for this.

We are moving into the final quarter of 2026—a natural threshold between what has been and what is beginning to emerge. There may already be something inside you that has been quietly developing, waiting for your attention.

You don't have to know exactly what comes next.

Sometimes the work is simply to find your footing, listen more deeply, and take the next step.

This is the work I love most: helping people interrupt what has kept them stuck, reconnect with their own inner wisdom, and align with what’s next.

If you feel that pull right now, I'd love to help you find your footing.

Book a private alignment session and let's clear the way together for what's next.

And a little news of my own

I'm so excited to share that starting mid September I'll now be writing on Substack too. It will be a space for longer reflections, deeper dives into ritual, and practical spiritual tools that don't always fit into a newsletter.

Think of it as a place to pause, go a little deeper, and explore what it means to bring ritual into real life.

More coming soon!

With love,

Barbara
